A FREE, MUSICAL INTERACTIVE EVENT FOR CHILDREN
SATURDAY, APRIL 28 AT 11AM AT THE HELP GROUP
Culver City, CA – March 29, 2007 – The Culver City Redevelopment Agency and
Cultural Affairs Division will present The String Family Players in All Strings Considered,
a free, fun, interactive musical program for children, on Saturday, April 28 at 11am. The
performance will take place in the Multipurpose Room located on The Help Group
campus at 12101 West Washington Boulevard in Culver City. Free parking is available
at 4173 Inglewood Boulevard off West Washington Boulevard. Sponsors for the event
are The Help Group as well as The Rumor Mill which will provide refreshments.
The String Family Players are a dynamic string quintet ensemble led by David Young
who is the principal bass for the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra. David Young (double
bass) is joined by members Nancy Roth and Sharon Harmon (violins), Lynn Grants
(viola) and Maurice Grants (cello). The group has been the strings group representing
the Music Center Education Division for over twelve years, and they have traveled to
over fifty schools a year to give in-school assembly programs. All Strings Considered
combines an introduction to the stringed instruments with demonstrations of techniques
used to produce the characteristic string sound. The audience learns to identify each
instrument by ear alone with listening games, and the group presents a perfect
combination of familiar music, used in current sound tracks, and commercials with
examples from the repertoire of other great music including the sounds of Mariachi,
blues, classical music and popular children’s songs.
Founded in 1975, The Help Group is the largest, most innovative and comprehensive
nonprofit of its kind in the United States serving children with special needs related to
autism, Asperger’s disorder, learning disabilities, ADHD, mental retardation, abuse and
emotional problems. The Help Group’s six specialized day schools offer pre-k through
high school programs for more than 1,200 students, and its wide range of mental health
and therapy services, child abuse, foster family and residential programs extend its
reach to more than 5,000 children and their families each year.
All Strings Considered is recommended for children under ten years of age and no
reservations are necessary. For more information please call the Cultural Affairs Hotline
at 310.253.5716 or log onto www.culvercity.org.
